Over 540 attend Region 9 PPP congress

first_imgDelegates of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) from Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) came out in their numbers to participate in the Party’s congress, which was held on Saturday.PPP General Secretary Bharrat Jagdeo urged the delegates to continue working hard to mobilise everyone to join forces with the Party, as it prepared for the 2020 General Election.PPP General Secretary Bharrat Jagdeo having a casual conversation with elder women of Region Nine at the conclusion of the congressJagdeo reminded the attendees of the failed promises made to them by the coalition Government. He urged them to hold the Government accountable for its actions and to ensure that their voices were heard.The Party’s leader also promised to do more for Indigenous people if the Party returned to office. He said that regardless of the election’s outcome, the PPPwould always fight for the rights of Guyana’s first people.During the congress, Jagdeo and other PPP officials also heard from the delegates who complained about the Government not being able to deliver on its promises.Some of the delegates pointed to the promise made by the coalition in relation toJagdeo speaking to another villagerincreased financial grants, large solar panels, and improved social services, among others.Opposition Member of Parliament (MP) Alister Charlie told Guyana Times that the delegates were pleased with the meeting and they were drawn from some of the most remote villages in the Region.He said the attendance of these villagers, particularly those from the Wai Wai villages, was extremely pleasing, as it showed their commitment to the PPP and their own development.Charlie said the delegates also used the opportunity to raise several other concerns with Jagdeo and the leadership of the PPP, and have given their fullJagdeo being presented with a token by a resident of Region Nine upon his arrival in Lethem on Saturdaycommitment to get the message of the PPP out.last_img read more

Again Con is doing this in aid of NCDI & The Breast Unit at Letterkenny Hospital.Sponsor cards are availble from Kathleen at the NCDI office 074 91 56898 or by phoning Betty at 087 2905 946. If not there will be a bucket collection on the day.Con is partly raising funds for the Breast Unit in recognition of the work of the unit, Donegal Action Against Cancer and also the fact that we have four daughters and at present four grand-daughters.This walk is a great opportunity for folk to come along join in for a wee bit of the walk, do the whole thing or do what suits you on the day.
